When children were taken into the school a social crime was committed. "I now understand why my grandmother didn't speak her language, why she worked as a house cleaner for non Aboriginal families, and why there was so much pain and secrecy in my family. I began to understand the loneliness that residential schools children and their families must have experienced. How many of us can understand what it must have been like to have been taken away from your families and placed in institutions where we didn't understand the language and were made feel ashamed of our culture?"
